During this seasonal position, I managed refuge habitat in support of prescribed fire, operations and biology divisions, including:

  • Provided Rx Fire support in ignitions, holding & safety in Midwest fuel types, participating in 58 Rx burns and wildfire operations in the 2006 season.
  • Constructed firelines & firebreaks via hand tools, power saws, mowing, discing.
  • Operated a Type 6 fire engine.
  • Operated & maintained Mini-Striker & Floto pumps.
  • Facilitated ecological restoration through treatment and removal of invasive and/or exotic species, identification of Midwestern plant & animal species, and native plant propagation.
  • Assisted in wildlife banding and tagging.
  • Operated tractors with mower, drill-seeder, spreader, bucket & disc attachments.
  • Provided support as a class "A" sawyer familiar with Stihl & Husqvarna Saws, maintenance, chain types/uses, multiple falling techniques & fire line experience.

AmeriCorps Volunteer: Clackamas River Basin Council

  • Riparian Steward focused on restoration activities and the analysis and removal of Japanese Knotweed (JK) throughout the watershed.
  • Conducted in-stream surveys of JK, creating a GIS database of known sites and attributes.
  • Utilized the JK database to discern trends and distributions.
  • Developed JK informational web-pages for the Council's web site.

Consultant: Illegal Trash Dump Project,

  • Surveyed, catalogued, and analyzed 90 illegal dumpsites on public lands.
  • Researched potential solutions through interviews, data analysis, case studies, and available grants.
  • Presented findings of analysis and research to client agencies through final written report, presentations, map series, and the Illegal Dumping Web Site.
  • Co-developed and executed several high quality Power Point presentations.
  • Collected GPS information and personally designed 13 GIS maps illustrating dumpsite locations, characteristics, and trends.
